The coaches of the club are all fully qualified by the BJA and bring a wide variety of judo styles and experience to the mat.​

Nick Palmer

Nick is a 4th Dan and has been a member of the British Masters squad. Through his Judo contacts the club has formed strong links with Marburg and Helsinki university Judo clubs, with whom we regularly arrange exchanges.

Alec Edwards

Alec is currently a 6th Dan, and was formerly the head coach of CUJC. He holds a Level 3 Coaching qualification, and serves as a Senior Examiner and a Senior Kata Examiner for the BJA.

Lee Beamiss

Lee (on the right in the picture above) also started judo at Cambridge and as a 1st Dan has done informal coaching in CUJC over the past few years.  He has since completed his Level 1 coaching qualification, and represented the City team at Varisty.

Kat McDonald

Kat joins us from Anglia Ruskin University judo club, where she is the head coach.

Mark Burrell

Coach Mark

Mark is a 1st Dan and Level 2 coach, and has been playing judo for over 30 years. He is teaching the 2021 beginners’ course; and is currently the City Team Captain.

Dean Pocock

Coach Dean

Dean is a 1st Dan and Level 2 coach. He has been training in judo for over 20 years.

Chris McGee

Coach Chris

Chris is currently 1st Dan and is a qualified BJA Level 1 Coach. He particularly specializes in ne-waza (ground work) techniques.
